Financial Accountant

Job description

The Opportunity: 

Our client is a commercial and civil legal firm working across a range of industries. A well established firm with a specialist team and multiple locations. 

An amazing opportunity to take ownership of the entire finance function and oversee and report on the financial health of the business.  Work with a turnover of circa $12Million and 30 staff.  Please note trust accounting experience, and exposure to the legal industry would be beneficial for this role. 

This is a strong hands-on role suited to someone who can work autonomously, with the ability to stand my the numbers and control the cashflow.    

Key Responsibilities: 
  • Effectively manage cash flow, day-to-day finance and accounting functions;
  • Budgeting, forecasts, daily cashflow, reporting;
  • Provide financial insights, advice and recommendations to the COO;
  • Manage the month end process including inter-company transactions, the completion of consolidated management reports and balance sheet reconciliations;
  • Ensure compliance with statutory obligations (BAS, IAS, Superannuation, Payroll Tax);
  • Collaborate with external accountant on technical issues and project tasks;
  • Ensure accurate and timely payroll processing including tax, super and other legislative requirements are adhered to;
  • Internal control and accounting/procedure policy development.

Required aptitudes: 
  • A self-starter; you must be able to up-skill yourself and gain the knowledge required if there are any gaps;
  • Highly personable; you will be dealing with a range of stakeholders. Therefore, it is critical that you have first class communication skills;
  • Solid understanding of trust accounting;
  • Strong foundation in financial reporting knowledge of AASB;
  • Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills;
  • High energy and strong work ethic.
  
Desired aptitudes:
  • 3+ years’ experience as a Financial Accountant;
  • CA or CPA qualified highly regarded;
  • Experience in preparing financial statements that require a statutory audit;
  • Experience with Xero accounting software;
  • Experience with Leap ideal but not mandatory;
  • Advanced excel;
